FREE BONSAI PRESENTATION BY VALLEY ISLE BONSAI
The Valley Isle Bonsai Club will present a demonstration on Drastic Reduction of a Ficus Tree by
Bonsai artist Tim West on Tuesday May 13th, 6:30 PM at the Kahului Jodo Mission, located at 325
Laau St. in Kahului.
During the presentation, Mr. West will explain the essentials of reducing a Ficus tree and give advice
for developing a healthy Bonsai. Attendees are encouraged to bring any Bonsai trees they may want
advice on. Refreshments will be served during our meet and greet session.
The Valley Isle Bonsai Club promotes knowledge, interest, appreciation, and enjoyment of the art of
Bonsai and its related arts through lectures, demonstrations, exhibits, workshops, field trips, and a
library of bonsai magazines, books, and other publications

I) CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order by President Gary Mohrlang at 6:40 PM.  The meeting was held at Kahului Jodo Mission hall. Present were 10 members.
II) MINUTES: 
a) January minutes was not addressed.
III) TREASURER’S REPORT: Submitted by treasurer Mark Givensel (see attached).
IV) OLD BUSINESS:
a) Soliciting inputs (ideas) for future meetings
V) NEW BUSINESS:
a) Board decisions
i) Participating at Maui Matsuri on May 10 – demonstration
ii) Every other meeting is open workshop

I) CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order by President Gary Mohrlang at 6:37 PM.  The meeting was held at Kahului Jodo Mission hall. Present were 13 members, including 1 new-Barbara Duarte. Mr. Kobayashi, Mark Givensel’s father-in-law, was a guest.
II) MINUTES: 
a) December minutes not addressed because party only.
III) TREASURER’S REPORT: Submitted by treasurer Mark Givensel.
a) $364 expenses, $835 income (members’ dues, raffle, etc.)
b) Books donated by A. Kina
IV) OLD BUSINESS:
a) Appointment of Vice President – Glenn Adolpho
V) NEW BUSINESS:
a) Requesting suggestions for meeting program topics
i) A. Kina wants more external speakers

Bonsai Demonstration Open to Public

FREE BONSAI PRESENTATION BY VALLEY ISLE BONSAI CLUB

The Valley Isle Bonsai Club will present a demonstration on Group Forest Planting by Michael Wiegand, Bonsai Artist and Club member on March 11th, 6:30 PM at the Kahului Jodo Mission, located at 325 Laau St. in Kahului.

During the presenting, Mr. Wiegand will explain the essentials of creating a Group Forest Planting as well as give advice for developing a healthy Bonsai. Attendees are encouraged to bring any Bonsai trees they may want advice on. Refreshments will be served during our meet and greet session.

VIBC’s year-end-party/meeting will commence with grace by Gary Mohrlang at the Okinawan Cultural Center when members and their guests arrive at 6:00pm. Please sign in, get a ticket (one per club member), place your dish on the buffet tables and take a look around! Admire the beautiful building and get a look around at the things for sale or auction and feel free to purchase anything being sold directly by other members at this time.

December 2012 Letter From the President

Aloha Dear Members!

This year’s big party is almost here! Our “End-of-the-Year-Get-Together” will be held on Tuesday, December 11th, 2012 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Maui Okinawan Cultural Center (688 Nukuwai Place in Waiehu, across from Sack ‘n Save). Please see the back of this letter for details and bring it to the party to follow along :)

Please remember to:

  1. Call Mae Omuro at 244-0625 by December 5th to indicate what dish and how many people you are bringing to the Pot-Luck dinner. Bring your favorite dish to share with us!
  2. Please bring a wrapped door prize! (having something to do with bonsai and inexpensive)
  3. Please bring bonsai items or plants that you would like to donate to the club. They will be used in live auction, Chinese auction, or direct sale. All money made through donations will go to the club for our various programs.
  4. Please also bring any bonsai plants or items that you would like to sell directly to other members.
  5. Finally, please be prepared to pay your 2013 dues ($15/person or $25/couple). Be sure to bring extra cash or checks so that you can purchase some of the many wonderful things that will be available that night! Help support the Club and our fellow members!

You are all encouraged to bring your spouse, family, or a guest. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to call me at 442-2132.

1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President Sara Maxwell at 6:40 p.m. at the Kahului Jodo Mission with 16 members present.

 

2. MINUTES: There are no October meeting minutes due to Beginner Bonsai Classes

 

3. TREASURER’S REPORT: VanGuard fund = $16,516.44 and Central Pacific Bank = $2,045.71.
